A single product repository to optimize data processing

High-quality tools and innovative solutions for professionals around the world

As the French subsidiary of the world’s leading tool manufacturer—operating in France since 1961—STANLEY BLACK & DECKER France brings together major brands such as Stanley, DeWalt, Black & Decker, and Facom.

Operating through a network of distributors, Stanley Black & Decker must distribute its product data in multiple formats.

More data, more business

When it comes to product management, Stanley Black & Decker faces several challenges:
• Finding the right data quickly and easily
• Avoiding excessive back-and-forth between teams (product, web, marketing, sales, etc.)
• Reducing the risk of data “loss” within the network—as well as the time spent addressing it.

Teams must also create and distribute customer matrices and exports in industry-standard formats (FabDis / ETIM)—which requires extensive manipulation and conversion of Excel files. In addition, the group’s various systems (Hybris, CMS, and the data lake) incorporate product data, requiring different teams to enter the same information multiple times.

The choice of Pimcore as a content management system

DATASOLUTION has created a complex data model capable of receiving both data from SAP and Hybris feeds and the attributes required for the standardized ETIM and FabDis formats.

During the workshops, the team wanted to have additional objects, such as marketing campaigns and customer types, which were added to Pimcore—thanks to the flexibility of its data model. Relationships between objects were used extensively to link all the data together.

Using Pimcore’s Classification Stores, attributes were grouped according to their Hybris category, while other Classification Stores grouped the attributes required by the standardized formats. Tasks were created in the Process Manager to enable faster triggering by authorized users.

A PDF template was created to generate product data sheets on demand. Finally, a comprehensive and complex screen for verifying product completeness was implemented to improve tracking during the publication workflow—and to ensure higher quality.

A comprehensive data management tool

After six months of work, the Pimcore platform was deployed in October 2020 to key users at Stanley Black & Decker. More than 53,700 technical attributes, grouped into more than 6,800 attribute groups, were initialized, and 15 different object types were created.

Following training and several migration processes, Stanley Black & Decker’s product, marketing, and sales teams will have access to a database of 215,000 SKUs.
