A unified digital platform that combines heritage and innovation
The oldest of France's institutions
Founded in 864, La Monnaie de Paris is the oldest French institution and one of the oldest companies in the world; it mints legal tender under a monopoly for French euros, as well as for other foreign currencies in a competitive international environment. In addition to its core sovereign monetary mission in the service of the state, La Monnaie de Paris is the guardian of a tradition of excellence in the arts and crafts.
Closed to the general public since its founding in 1775, the 11 CONTI site opened to the public in late 2017. The institution now offers a new comprehensive experience, including a museum tour that explores the world of arts and crafts, as well as a completely redesigned online store featuring creations by its artisans and a wide range of merchandise.
A brand experience on an institutional scale that drives conversions
The Monnaie de Paris set us quite a challenge: to build a brand-new digital platform with a user-centric approach, designed to create a new omnichannel user experience while improving operational efficiency for employees.
“Challenge Accepted” by DATASOLUTION—and completed in 13 months!
Project Objectives
Since the old website no longer met its needs, the Monnaie de Paris was looking for a trusted partner who could advise and support it throughout the deployment of a new platform—one capable of ensuring business continuity but, above all, of accelerating its digital transformation for its customers while strengthening the connection with the store.
This platform migration enables a better user experience across multiple channels and turns those channels into real drivers of foot traffic to physical stores through optimized omnichannel journeys. This major transformation should also serve as an opportunity to improve the operational efficiency of internal teams by providing them with a user-friendly, effective tool, while streamlining and standardizing the processes and tools used.
The website redesign project is fully aligned with the Monnaie de Paris’s growth strategy, one of the key pillars of which is to put customers at the center of its efforts.
- A lack of consistency among its various facets: e-commerce store, cultural venue (11 Conti), public institution, and heritage organization
- Fragmented user experience: 6 distinct target audiences (coin collectors, tourists, collectors, businesses, etc.) with conflicting expectations (e.g., inspirational journey vs. technical purchase)
- Technical limitations: difficulties managing traffic spikes (e.g., a 100-fold increase during the launch of collections such as Fort Boyard or Harry Potter), complex inventory management (multi-channel: online, brick-and-mortar stores, mail-order), and poorly optimized SEO
- Business Goal: Increase revenue by 50% over 5 years
The DATASOLUTION Approach
To address these challenges, DATASOLUTION has implemented a customized strategy that combines agility, user-centric design, and robust technologies:
1. A unified and scalable platform
- Technology Choice: Migration to Adobe Commerce Cloud for its rich native functionality (multi-warehouse management, personalization, AI-powered recommendations via Adobe Sensei), scalability, and security.
- Omnichannel integration:
- Real-time inventory synchronization (warehouses + brick-and-mortar stores) via Adobe’s MSI (Multi-Source Inventory).
- Web-to-store experience: click-and-collect, in-store product availability, unified order history (online + in-store).
- PWA (Progressive Web App) for a seamless mobile-first experience.
2. A highly personalized user experience
- Design System & Atomic Design: A consistent interface for 6 personas, with distinct visual styles (color schemes, profile-based access at the top of the page).
- Advanced customization:
- Optimized search engine (ElasticSearch) + advanced filters for numismatists.
- Engraving and live preview of medals (dedicated module).
- Dynamic product recommendations (Adobe Sensei).
- Integrated editorial content: A balance between a cultural platform (history, expertise) and an e-commerce store, featuring a three-part visual layout on the homepage to represent the three pillars (institution, culture, commerce).
3. SEO Optimization and Performance
- 360° SEO Strategy:
- Semantic optimization (keywords such as “currency” and “medals”), technical optimization (tags, URLs, images), and structural optimization (site map, breadcrumb trail).
- Link building and pagination management to improve visibility.
- Technical robustness:
- Akeneo PIM (Serenity SaaS) for centralized product data management.
- Ongoing user testing (interviews, A/B testing via Kameleoon) and a post-launchhypercare phase.
4. Agile Collaboration and Co-Creation
- Agile Methodology: Regular sprints with the Monnaie de Paris teams for incremental deliveries.
- User Research: Immersing myself in numismatists’ forums to understand their expectations, and conducting tests on wireframes and mockups.
- Training and Autonomy: Simplified Tools for Internal Teams (Page Builder, Staging & Preview).
Tangible Results
In conclusion
A perfect balance between institutional focus and business performance
La Monnaie de Paris’s new website seamlessly combines content and personalization to make digital a true driver of business growth: positive user reviews, an overall increase in conversion rates, no slowdowns or service interruptions during collection launches, and a decrease in customer service inquiries.
