The Pimcore Community Edition allows you to take advantage of the platform’s full range of features (PIM/MDM/DAM or CMS), with no limitations on products, users, or attributes. Although comprehensive, this open-source edition does have a few limitations.

The first, which stems from its license, is the lack of intellectual property protection. The terms of the GPL v3 license grant certain freedoms regarding the use, modification, and distribution of software, including the requirement to make any modifications to the source code available under the same license. In short, this means that your developments or extensions to Pimcore can be distributed outside your company without any restrictions.

To minimize this impact and protect your investments in your Pimcore platform, we recommend migrating to the Professional edition of Pimcore, whose PCL commercial license will ensure compliance with intellectual property rights. This edition will also provide access to the extension marketplace, allowing you to enhance Pimcore with additional features.

Which brings us to the second point.

As comprehensive as it may be, the Pimcore Community Edition does not allow you to take advantage of certain important and unique features that offer significant added value and enable you to get the most out of Pimcore.

It may therefore be a good idea to install the Enterprise Edition to take advantage of its exclusive modules and services.

The Community, Professional, and Enterprise editions can be installed on-premises (on your servers) or on any private cloud (Pimcore is compatible with Azure, AWS, and GCP).
