The premier women’s soccer team, OL Lyonnes (formerly Olympique Lyonnais Féminin), boasts an unmatched record of 39 titles, including a record 8 Women’s Champions League titles and 19 French league championships.
One year after launching its brand identity, OL Lyonnes marked a significant milestone in the club’s history with the official launch of its very first dedicated website, www.ol-lyonnes.com, developed in partnership with DATASOLUTION, which is also a major partner of the club.
The club needed a digital presence that reflected this independence. It wasn’t a redesign, but rather the creation of an entirely new website, with two goals: to be useful to fans, spectators, families, and partners, and to establish a strong, more tangible, and editorial identity.
Key Points
- Diminished visibility: content lost in the men’s team’s digital ecosystem
- Players who lack a strong sense of identity, no connection with the fans
- Scattered information on game days
- A lot of content to organize without replicating a cumbersome organizational structure
- A visually rich website that needed to remain fast, especially on mobile devices
- No room for error at the launch (official event and press conference)
Additional constraint
The website also had to be mobile-first and bilingual (French and English) to reflect the club’s international vision.
Process and Approach
Several months of work carried out in close collaboration with the OL Lyon teams, in a true spirit of partnership.
-
Developed in collaboration with the club’s marketing teams using an SXO approach, which combines marketing needs, user-friendly navigation, and SEO/GEO considerations. The site is organized around real-world use cases: following the season, exploring the club’s world, enjoying the fan experience, accessing content, and facilitating key actions.
-
Mobile is treated as the primary platform, not just a secondary version: short user flows, a clear hierarchy, visible CTAs, and components designed for vertical reading.
-
A sports-themed, premium, welcoming, and family-friendly website that reflects the brand’s signature elements: red, blue, gold, the lioness, and the crown.
-
A proven WordPress technical foundation, with RGAA standards built in from the design phase. All hosted by DATASOLUTION.
-
User flow, content, components, responsiveness, and editorial elements are all verified to ensure a flawless launch.

Production
A bilingual, editorial, and immersive website that puts female gamers at the center of the experience.
- Enhanced player profiles: statistics, quotes, trivia, voice messages, social media, photos, videos, related news, and Spotify playlists
- A roster page designed around an illustrated field: the scroll follows the players’ positions, from the goalkeepers to the forwards
- Matchday: All the information about the upcoming game in one place (directions, entertainment, food and drink, sports background)
- A calendar that can be filtered by month, competition, or result, with direct access to video highlights from the match cards
- A Hall of Fame dedicated to the club’s history (42 titles, including 8 Women’s Champions Leagues) and its iconic players
- Academy Space Dedicated to the Next Generation
- A clear separation between content and actions (ticketing, store, newsletter) to streamline the fan experience
- Custom pictograms, to avoid generic icons
- A burger menu shaped like claws, with animated claw marks that appear when you hover over certain CTAs
- Logo crown used in the calendar to indicate wins
- Subtle micro-interactions and animations that enhance navigation without compromising readability
- Effective lazy loading, with videos loaded only on demand and JavaScript libraries loaded only on the pages and sections that need them
- Accessibility fundamentals: keyboard navigation, heading hierarchy, contrast, and compliance with most of the 106 applicable RGAA criteria
Results Observed
15,000 visits in the first week alone, 64% of which were on mobile: user behavior confirms the wisdom of the mobile-first approach. Fans naturally gravitate toward the site’s most distinctive content: the roster (5,000 views) and news (4,000 views).
About 20% of traffic comes from ol.fr: the transition from the OL ecosystem is working. OL Lyonnes now has its own distinct and recognizable platform, while maintaining a strong connection to the original site.
Strong performance, despite a website rich in images and animations
- Accessibility: 100 / 100
- SEO: 100 / 100
- Best Practices: 96 / 100
- Desktop performance (at launch) 95 / 100
- Mobile performance: 72/100, above the French average
