The leader in climbing ropes and ropes for working at heights
The DATASOLUTION team has once again moved mountains alongside BEAL, the world leader in climbing ropes and equipment for working at heights. Originally specializing in ropes, the family-owned company based in Vienne (Isère) has expanded its product line and now offers all the equipment needed for rock climbing and working at heights.
Until now, BEAL’s clients had been exclusively retailers such as Le Vieux Campeur. The launch of the website was therefore a major undertaking that required the creation of a new brand identity and visual style guide.
Brand Identity Work
The BEAL brand is well-known and recognized for its dynamic ropes in bright colors and numerous technical innovations that are universally appreciated by climbers. We drew inspiration from these vibrant colors for the visual identity. A bright, neon green is used in various accents throughout the website. It stands out from the competition, whose visual identities tend to be more neutral.
The Audimat typeface was chosen for its original and elegant style, which is well-suited to high-end products. Nothing was left to chance, as the slight offset on the letters echoes climbing holds.
A Customized Visual World
The site’s identity relies heavily on showcasing visuals. For each category, extensive research was conducted to find photos that ensure each activity offers an immersive experience in a realistic setting where users can imagine themselves there.
Some photos have been edited to bring out the colors by slightly increasing the saturation. The edges of the photos feature a scratched effect to evoke the outdoor setting.
Special Features for B2B
A members-only area allows distributors to log in. Once logged in, certain sections are updated to meet the needs of professionals. The site has been optimized to help them work more efficiently. Right on the home page, a search bar lets users enter product codes and quantities instead of searching by name.
- The back office is connected to the customer’s ERP system. All prices excluding tax applicable to distributors are obtained through this system.
- Another specific feature: there are three drop-down menus for languages, shipping options, and currencies. This was a special request from the BEAL team so that users could select each of the three independently.
- Finally, in each category, you can add a PDF file containing information required only by business customers.

Optimizing the B2C User Experience
We put ourselves in the shoes of climbers and rope access professionals to design the best possible customer experience. The homepage is organized by activity type: outdoor climbing, canyoning, tree trimming, and more. This allows climbers and rope access professionals to explore the product catalog based on their specific activities.
Clear, uncluttered pages
Once a category has been selected, the user is taken to an “Universe” page that provides an overview of the various products in that category and related information. For example, in the “Outdoor Climbing” category, you’ll find a variety of climbing ropes, quickdraws, carabiners, belay devices, and harnesses. This bird’s-eye view is appreciated by our climbers, who can easily navigate to the products they’re looking for or switch categories.
Revision of Product Sheets
Finally, the product sheets were designed to highlight the unique features of each product. They serve a dual purpose: to help beginners navigate this flood of specifications, while providing enough technical details for experts in the field. The product sheet template has been revised to present as much information as possible in a clear manner.
