A Look Back at the Pimcore User Group | Paris

#Pimcore #UserGroup

On June 12, DATASOLUTION, with support from Pimcore, organized the first Pimcore User Group meeting in France. More than 25 Pimcore contributors and users gathered at the Espace Saint-Antoine to discuss two topics selected by the team.

The meeting began with an introduction—via video conference—by Stefan Gruber, Pimcore’s CSO, and Yann Delomez, Partner Manager for France. It was an opportunity to present and share Pimcore’s philosophy and vision with the French community, as well as to offer a sneak peek at some of the new features in Pimcore 11.

Extend the functionality of Pimcore : Lessons Learned

Pimcore natively includes many features, but it is often necessary to extend them to meet customer needs. The teams at DATASOLUTION wanted to share their insights through three examples from recent projects

  • Visual Completeness Module
  • Pimcore to SFCC (Salesforce Commerce Cloud) Connector
  • Multi-source translation module (DeepL, Google Translate, Memsource, etc.)

For each module, the initial need, the technical approach, and the challenges encountered were presented and shared with the community. Each contributor was able to share their perspective and their own experiences.

Everyone noted how easy it is to extend Pimcore—a Symfony framework based on a service- and event-driven architecture—as well as the challenges associated with ExtJS, which is not well-suited for code extensions.

Essentials for a Project Pimcore

Many of the modules available on the Pimcore marketplace provide a wide range of features while reducing code duplication and simplifying updates. The DATASOLUTION project teams presented the community with five bundles they consider essential for any new Pimcore project:

  • Process Manager
  • Number Sequence Generator
  • SSO (based on Symfony bundles)
  • API Platform, an alternative to Datahub
  • PimcoreTools, an internal bundle that simplifies data management and import/export

This was followed by constructive and informative discussions, with each participant contributing their insights and suggesting their favorite bundles.

Following these presentations, the participants were able to continue their discussions informally over a cocktail reception.

This very first Pimcore User Group event was the first in a long series to come. Feel free to join us!
