Why talk about data repositories rather than PIM or MDM (or even SCV, “Single Customer View<\/b>“) ?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Quite simply because the boundary between these different tools is no longer as clear-cut as it used to be, and new needs are emerging.<\/p>\n

Why do we do this? Because we’re finding that our customers’ projects are no longer just about\u00a0product information management tools<\/a>\u00a0(PIM<\/span><\/strong>), but now aggregate a wide range of data and objects around the product, moving closer to the philosophy of a Master Data Management (MDM<\/strong><\/span>). Indeed, more and more objects revolve around a product: publication channels, categories, suppliers, brands, factories, media, documents, prices and sometimes even customers.<\/p>\n

While some solutions, such as Pimcore<\/a><\/strong> (open-source MDM application for managing digital data and customer experience<\/a>, on all your channels and media) or Maps System<\/strong><\/span> (the highly configurable Master Data Management solution<\/a> to manage your company’s data) make it possible to address this issue within a single platform, we are also seeing the emergence of MDM + PIM pairs in IT ecosystems.<\/p>\n

MDM<\/strong> is a combination of PIM, DAM and DXM (Digital Experience Management). Users log on to a single platform, enter, structure, enrich and export all the data in the format required for the chosen distribution channel (website, catalogue, point-of-sale advertising, etc.) without adding any additional functionality, including for managing data that varies (changes in prices or stocks, for example).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n\n\n\n

More and more manufacturers are using an MDM at the factory gate to manage complex data models, which are then combined with a PIM such as Akeneo<\/strong><\/span><\/a> or Pimcore<\/span><\/strong> to enrich and publish marketing data across the various channels.<\/p>\n
