What are the uses of Grab & Discover?
This innovation can be used in a variety of ways, depending on the customer’s needs and sector of activity:
- Increase in-store conversion through an enriched experience (offer a comparison of two products, see an exploded view of the product to discover its materials, provide information on a product’s characteristics, offer a personalized configurator, etc.);
- Enhance the customer journey and strengthen the customer experience, which goes beyond simple product acquisition,
- Display information when taking medical/industrial instruments or care, for example, to facilitate the integration of new tools in training centers or hospital departments,
- Enhance the value of a brand’s products in a showroom or demonstrator at a trade show or event, to create interaction with visitors,
- Create a connected user experience at events, using a badge to access information or trigger actions during the visit (photo booth, business card sharing, networking, marketing automation, etc.),

Somfy’s connected building
A few years ago, our team completed a similar project for Somfy. As you can see from the video, the table represents a clock, and each object represents an hour of the day.
When the customer grabs one of these objects and places it on the dedicated space, it automatically launches the associated presentation video. By manipulating the object, the user uses his senses, which, coupled with the activation of information, affect his perception of the object.
Grab & Discover can be displayed on all types of media, including tablets, televisions, video totems, touch screens and kiosks, to complete the experience and encourage immediate purchase in retail outlets, for example.
How does it work?
We use two technologies to deliver this phygital experience: RFID and/or integrated, stand-alone Micro Sensor.
RFID (radio frequency identification):
RFID is used to detect the placement of an object in a precise location. Positioning at this defined location triggers the action, as it creates an RFID contact point. The user’s location can be determined by logical deduction from the location of the RFID contact point.
Example: an access badge passed in front of the defined detection zone opens a secure door. RFID antennas require product design to protect technological components and resist weathering.
Micro-sensor technology :
The second technology uses an integrated, self-contained micro-sensor. It recovers the signal from an object to detect its movement. There’s no need for a precise point of contact like RFID.
With this technology, picking up the object triggers the desired action. The action ends when the user places the object back on a precise zone (a pre-defined area of up to 10 m). This technology is also capable of many other evolutions, including the ability to detect the orientation of the object (if the user is holding it upside down, for example, or its temperature).
