Ekosport started its activities in 2007 by distributing a range of alpine ski equipment online. Quickly recognized in the outdoor community for its expertise and excellent customer service, Ekosport became the leader in the sale of ski equipment and outdoor sports in France.

2014: A necessary overhaul to support growth

In order to support its rapid expansion into European and international markets, Ekosport sought to equip itself with a new e-commerce platform that would facilitate multi-country management of the entire distribution chain while enhancing the customer experience. Therefore, Ekosport chose DATASOLUTION and Intershop, an omnichannel commerce platform, to deploy its new site simultaneously in 11 countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom, in October 2014.

2015: A full responsive graphical redesign, expanded to cover all outdoor activities.

  • Development of activities other than skiing (climbing, running…) to reduce seasonality.
  • Management of traffic peaks linked to promotions such as Black Friday, sales, private sales…
  • Implementation of Click & Collect delivery with the possibility of configuring stores to receive orders directly in the Intershop Back Office.
  • Addition of interfaces allowing sellers to modify order status changes through simple entry of the order number or by scanning the barcode on the package.

A highly crafted “Brand” page

A mix of editorial sections to introduce the brand and its values, and product and category selections to suggest choices to the customer.

Optimizing product management

Ekosport has 300,000 products, 10,000 m2 of warehouses, and operates in 11 European countries. Initially, the product team used the e-Commerce back-office to manage and provide information on all its products, with numerous ergonomic constraints. By deploying Pimcore, the team can now more easily create, control, and supplement its product data (120,000 attributes and over 50,000 images) before publishing them on the e-commerce site.

A complex implementation objective

The PIM project was completed in less than 4 months, and the product team quickly took ownership of the new, much more ergonomic and efficient tool. The most complex aspect of the project was to incorporate 4 years of modeling into a tool that was not a PIM (variations, attributes, classifications). However, thanks to Pimcore’s flexible model (classes, metadata, nested objects), solutions were able to be implemented. The Ekosport team now has a tool that is finally adapted to its needs.
